San Sebastian (Donostia in Basque) is on the north coast of the Basque Country 12 miles from the French border. Many consider it to be the most beautiful city in Spain.

Although it attracts throngs of holidaymakers in summer, out of season it is relatively quiet and has a very friendly local feel.

The Basque country is a great place for outdoor sports such as surfing, cycling, walking and skiing. It is also a region which is justifiably famous for its food and drink.

San Sebastian is quite a small city with a population of around 200,000 people – big enough to offer all the necessary amenities but you can easily get around on foot or by bike. Despite the problems of separatist politics, San Sebastian is a safe city to live and work in, with a very low crime rate.
