Velvet School
Velvet School is a private Language Centre located in the centre of Bilbao. Velvet School is a member of the ACEIB, the association of language schools in Vizcaya. The school opened in 1988 and since then we have been improving our results and qualifications. Velvet School is an examination centre for Cambridge Examinations such as Starters, Movers and Flyers.
The school has a total of sixteen classes in two different buildings, as well as study facilities, an administration department and a staff room in each building. All the classes are fully equipped with the necesary teaching resources. Each classroom has its own whiteboard, noticeboard, CDplayer and air conditioning. Many of them have also got a TV and a DVD player. Teachers also share additional equipment such as laptops. All the classes have Internet facilities and the teachers have computers that can be used during the classes preparation time. We also offer photocopier, laser printer, scanner, resource materials, photocopiable materials for general and business English, games, flashcards, books...
We offer a wide range of all the necessary teaching resources, such as library, DVD and video library, free Internet use, and all mentioned above.
We have students from as young as 5 up to adults and they are graded according to age and level.
With a maximum of 10 students per classroom the classes are personal and we aim to offer a high standard of tuition in order to strengthen the position of the school in this competitive market. Our courses are:

- Crash Courses
- Business Courses for specific purposes (Effective writing, Negotations, Presentations...)
- Other languages available on request.
We also offer one to one classes, technical and business English to companies in the zone and classes in near Schools and High Schools.
Teachers are given a Teacher’s Manual where they can find all the necessary infomation needed to work in our Language School. There, they can find essential information such as dresscode, working rules, duties, administrative matters, information to fill attendance sheets and reports, studying programs, exams dates, available resources and materials.....
At the beginning of each school year, all teachers are given information about the classes, the background of the students, previous reports...
Velvet School is looking for effective and highly motivated teachers and we expect our teachers to dedicate time to class preparation. Their duties are to prepare and give classes at all levels, produce teaching material and write term reports. The will need to talk to the parents of students if necessary and answer queries that may arise. Teachers are continuously checked through attendance sheets, quality questioners, short talks and observed once a year per group.
We also think teacher support is very important so we offer help when dealing with problems that may appear in a personal or proffesional frame, such as class preparing and planning, materials.... All help and guidance is available throughout the year.
We offer full national health and social security cover. Contracts are according to Spanish labour law for the private teaching sector and initially are for one academic year. Due to our policy we try to keep teachers on permanent basis what is positive for teachers and students.
Classes normally start in the beginning of September and the term finishes at the end of June. Teachers are expected to be in Bilbao by the first week of September in order to attend teachers' meetings and in order to get all the information needed for the year.
- Native English speaker with university degree.
- Spanish teacher with Degree in the different Modern Languages.
- EU national and valid work permit
- Previous teaching experience
- Must be sociable and must like English and children and enjoy teaching
Our aim is to ensure a high level of language teaching so we expect teachers dedicate time to class preparation, be adaptable and enthusiasm. They should try to create a pleasant and friendly atmosphere in class.
